The seven artists participating in this exhibition, Annette Corcoran, Sylvia 
Hyman, Karen Dahl, Paul Dresang, David Furman, Glibert Kulish and Victor Spinski 
are all masters of the ceramic medium. Their amazingly realistic sculptures 
build on the historical tradition of trompe l'oeil, which translates from 
French to "deceive the eye." Each artist creates, entirely from clay, objects 
that appear to be real, objects that truly trick the eye into believing they 
actually are what they appear to be. Mundane objects become extraordinary 
through their articulation in clay, the sculptures so realistic that the subject 
of each might fool the viewer into thinking that it is the original subject. 
Both playful and intellectually serious, these artists toy with spectators' 
seeing to raise questions about the nature of art and perception.
