Roberta Massuch’s work draws inspiration from the built environment. Wrought in clay, concrete, wood, and paper, her architectural forms are simplified to their essential elements. Light and shadow is used to emphasize subtle shifts in the spaces between—passageways that separate one from another. This investigation began during a residency at Arquetopia Center for Development (Puebla, Mexico) funded by the Independence Foundation, during which time she explored and observed the stairways and openings in cityscape of urban Mexico.
