Shifting North

As The Clay Studio prepares to move into its newly constructed home, one mile NORTH, at 1425 N. American Street, we are excited to celebrate the work of our talented Resident Artists. The Residents continue to nurture the seed of creativity planted by the five artists who founded the organization almost 50 years ago. The commitment to a creative community established in 1974 has flourished into a robust organization that provides access to ceramic based art making activities to thousands of people around the Philadelphia area each year. The Resident Artist Program offers artists time and space to further develop their work, to establish professional contacts and standards, and to work within a community of like-minded individuals in an urban environment for up to three years. The program is designed to reflect a range of experiences and diverse aesthetic approaches, cultures and perspectives. Through a recent major gift from the Windgate Foundation, The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program provides the Residents with a stipend and free studio space to allow more intense focus on their artwork, while also establishing themselves within The Clay Studio community, the Philadelphia art community, as well as the wider national and international art world.Through a recent major gift from the Windgate Foundation, The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program allows artists to become successful members of The Clay Studio community, the Philadelphia art community, as well as the wider national and international art world.

The Clay Studio is grateful to be invited to exhibit artwork by Stephanie Kantor, Nick Lenker, Nate Willever, Adebunmi Gbadebo, Ruth Easterbook, Jacob Raeder, Chris Rodgers, Akiko Jackson, and Kevin Snipes at Allens Lane Art Center as we transition NORTH to our new building in the spring of 2022.
