Shaping Minds: Philadelphia's Clay Mentors

Jun 28th - Aug 13th, 2016

The Clay Studio and Drexel University’s Leonard Pearlstein Gallery have joined forces to curate an exhibition celebrating the work of ceramic educators in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Collectively, these artists have been inspiring young artists for the past forty years. Thirteen teaching artists have been invited to display various works that illustrate a range of their art as it has progressed over time. The work ranges from traditional vessel forms to large-scale abstract sculpture to works produced with digital technology.  From the youngest, who graduated in 2011, to the most experienced, who finished graduate school in 1976, the group includes student/teacher relationships, mentor/mentee relationships, and ultimately a group of colleagues working to educate and inspire the next generation of ceramic artists in Philadelphia. Join us for an exceptional commemoration of our city’s inspiring artistic instructors.

The Leonard Pearlstein Gallery is free and open to the public. Summer hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

Exhibiting Artists: Sandi Pierantozzi & Neil Patterson, Linda Cordell, Chad Curtis, Roberta Massuch, Doug Herren, Jason Lee Starin, Nicholas Kripal, Sumi Maeshima, Theo Uliano, Matthew Courtney, Gregg Moore, and Syd Carpenter.
