Rose Cabat (b. 1914, NYC - d. 2015, Tucson) began creating her porcelain "Feelies" in 1960 and continued to work on the series throughout her long life. Each vessel was thrown on the wheel and then bathed in one dip of Cabat's proprietary multi-hued glazes, which she chemically engineered to have the sensuous hand feel of human skin. Artist/curator Alex Stadler has arranged works from the collection of Bruce Block in family groupings designed to show the subtle differences and character traits of each piece. Cabat's Feelies are held in the collections of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Met, The Smithsonian and MoMA.
