Things come and go. Relationships come and go. The one thing we carry with us from birth to death is our physicalexistence. And yet, the majorityof us have only a basic understanding of the human body, our most prizedpossession.
Perhaps it is the result of my own medical experiences, where I found myself simultaneously fascinated by and fearful of the body’scomplexity, or growing up in the south, where the façade of religion is asthick as the accent, but I am both intrigued and relieved to know the world, the people, and the relationships within it are not simply black andwhite.
In using emotional associations linked to the variousanatomies of the human body - from cellular tissue, to organs, to overallsystem structures - I explore the areas of grey. My work is autobiographical, exposing aspects ofpersonal relationships that are not readily apparent. Each piece is a visual depiction of an internalizedrelationship, both true and fictitious realities, that I have with myself orthat I share with those individuals closest to me.
