Resident Artist Series
Aug 12th - Sep 25th, 2016
In 2015, Lauren Mabry was awarded an Independence Foundation Grant which allowed her to travel to Jingdezhen International Studio at Taoxichuan Art Museum, in China. The city of Jingdezhen is the historical center of Chinese pottery production, sometimes called the "Porcelain Capitol," and has recently become a destination for ceramic artists all over the world. Inspired by the clay and glaze materials unique to Jingdezhen, Mabry's porcelain cylinders in this exhibition represent insights gained through the complexities of her trip.
Lauren Mabry is a former Clay Studio Resident Artist (2012-2015) and a Pew Fellow. She studied ceramics at Kansas City Art Institute (BFA 2007) and at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Lincoln (MFA 2012). This year she will serve as a Visiting Faculty member at Ohio State University. In conjunction with the exhibition, Lauren is teaching a weekend workshop September 17 & 18 on Low Fire Surfaces at The Clay Studio.
