Jordan McDonald is a ceramic artist based in Philadelphia and a former Clay Studio Resident Artist. His work includes pottery, small furniture, lighting and mirrors. His forms and ideas are generated out of necessities of everyday life and through his own curiosity about the history and practice of ceramics.
Jordan writes, “This is a small selection of what I’m currently working on in my West Philadelphia studio. I have been enjoying experimenting with new tools and processes that have led me to new forms and ideas. I think we relate to functional objects on a very basic level through our bodies — we call the base of a pot its foot, chairs and tables have legs. I play with how readily we can understand what an object is (a pot) and yet be confused about its function. This relationship of objects and function is the conceptual premise of my work.”
