Each September The Clay Studio excitedly welcomes our new Resident Artists. At the same time, we bid farewell to Residents moving on to other programs, teaching opportunities and the next steps in their career. Hello/Goodbye includes the work of the twelve artists who are experiencing this changeover, as well as the six residents continuing their residency.
For many of us at The Clay Studio, August and September are bittersweet. We say goodbye to individuals that we have grown to love and who have been part of our daily lives, and we welcome those who are joining our community with all that they bring. Leaving our program are Brian Giniewski, Ben Fiess, Kensuke Yamada, Matthew Ziemke and Hiroe Hanazono. Those we welcome are Joanna Pike, Chase Folsom, Andrew Jackson, Laura Ashley and Mimi McPartlan. Continuing Residents are Julie Moon, Peter Morgan, Lauren Mabry, Michael Fujita, Jordan McDonald and Rebecca Chappell.
The Resident Artist Program, considered by many to be the best of its kind in the US, focuses on professional development and provides studio space, teaching and exhibition opportunities, and career mentoring. Upon acceptance into the program, Residents may remain for up to five years. Former Residents now sit on the faculties of major colleges and universities nationally, have gallery representation, exhibit their work nationally and internationally, and have their works included in major public, private and museum collections. Five Resident Artists have been recipients of Pew Artist Fellowships, our regions highest honor for rewarding artistic excellence.
