This fall, five coordinated exhibitions at venues across Philadelphia are celebrating different aspects of the life, artwork, and legacy of Nicholas Kripal. The exhibitions will take place at the Clay Studio, Tyler School of Art, the Crane Arts, Park Towne Place, and 1714 N. Mascher St.
Kripal, who passed away in September 2016, was a central figure in the creative community in Philadelphia. He was a respected educator, influencing countless students as a ceramics professor at Tyler School of Art. As an artist, he was known for his deeply researched, site-specific art installations and elaborately constructed ceramic sculptures.
The Clay Studio and Tyler School of Art are highlighting Kripal’s work as an educator and the mark he made on his students and community. Configuration, presented by InLiquid at Park Towne Place provides a look at his artwork over several decades. The Crane Arts presents a prominent installation from the Contrivance series, and the sculpture garden at 1714 N Mascher features several exterior sculptural works.
