Ten artists created work in response to a specific piece, collection, or space housed within three venerable Institutions, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Eastern State Penitentiary, and The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaelogy and Anthropology. Featuring work by Ann Agee, Steve Keister, Ryan Kelly, Rocky Lewycky, Walter McConnell, Jeffrey Mongrain, Judy Moonelis, Paul Sacaridz, Judyth Van Amringe, Betty Woodman.
"Ceramic Interactions was truly a project based on faith and trust. Incredibly ambitious in scope and hugely complex to facilitate, it involved numerous personalities and voices: the four curators who conceived of the project and selected the participating artists; the ten artists themselves; the three host institutions; the employees of those institutions, their primary curators and other personnel from various departments. The project was in many ways a precarious house of cards, ready to fall apart at anytime should one card not fall into place or be removed at the wrong time. Fortunately, we were dealt a strong hand and this project became a reality.
"The staffs from Eastern State Penitentiary, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaelogy and Anthropology showed unusual trust in me and in The Clay Studio to facilitate a project of this nature. They trusted in the strength of this project, and the talent and proposed work of the ten artists chosen to participate. It is rare that this kind of trust is shown. We are incredibly thankful for that and for them allowing us to be guests in their homes."
