Birdie Boone describes herself as a maker of pots, researcher of the domestic realm, social tendencies and their effects on personal identity, and an occasional instructor.
Boone grew up in both the slow culture of southwestern Virginia and the fast culture of the City of San Francisco. She says she was always encouraged to be creative and declared an intent to be a potter at the age of six.
She received her BA in art from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1994 and her MFA in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 2005. Boone taught at Emory & Henry College in Virginia from 1999-2002 and returned for the 2010-2011 school year. Boone was a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts in Helena, MT, 2007-2009 and currently lives in Santa Fe, NM.
