Community Maker Days Details:
Everyone who lives, worships, or works in greater Kensington is welcome to try their hand at clay in these fun hands-on workshops throughout the summer of 2018!
Make your very own handmade plate with the guidance of our lead teaching artists, Hope Rovelto and Hiroe Hanazono! Each Community Maker Day workshop consists of two workstations were participants get to both make and decorate plates. One workstation allows individuals to make plates using clay and a mold. The second workstation allows individuals to decorate a plate made by a previous community member using ceramic decals with images inspired and informed by the neighborhood and community partners. Decals will include photographs from the neighborhood, including contemporary images, archival photography, cultural icons and symbolism. These plates will be made available to community members who attend the Community Dinner + Clay Fest (or available for pick up if not available to attend).
Each of these plates will be unique piece of artwork, signed by both “community makers”, to be shared, used, and taken home by those attending the community dinner on September 29th. This will a memorable event!
