My working career has spanned 35 years teaching fine arts and humanities for the School District of Philadelphia. My responsibilities were to develop a Gifted Fine Arts Program for middle school students. At the same time, I was co-founder of the Fablemonger Puppet Theater, performing extensively in the Delaware Valley and collaborating with museums to produce interactive programming with puppets and masks.
Currently I am a docent at the University of Pennsylvania Museum, specializing in giving tours of their Chinese collection.
My interest in understanding the making of art and architecture has expanded by traveling to China, Egypt, Turkey, Malta, Europe and Ireland.
I am presently pursing the study of painting and drawing in a Certificate Program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. This study definitely informs my mark making and painting on clay vessels and clay slabs. I love the overlap of studying color and form in both 2D and 3D work.
For many years I have been experimenting with a wood firing atmosphere. I have discovered many colorful glazes providing a good fit on porcelain in the salt chamber, and I continue the tradition of wood firing in the wood chamber. My current porcelain vessels and clay slabs are fired in oxidation at our studio.
