Associate Artist - Current
I create jewelry that is inspired by and abstracted from nature. Each piece has a sculptural, hands-on quality and is made with consideration to both visual appeal and comfort. The ceramic components of my jewelry are made by hand, creating unique shapes with subtle variations. I also mix many of my own glazes and layer them to generate colorful surface effects. For finishing the earrings, I hand-form each of the sterling silver ear wires to seamlessly couple with the ceramic elements.
Throughout my artistic career, my work has included sculpture, installation, and painting. I have a background in clay that began in 2008 while studying under ceramicists at Central Carolina Community College in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I learned to make functional pottery. With a desire to pursue art as a career, I then attended Arizona State University and earned a BFA in 2012. I went on to receive an MFA from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2013. Following graduation, I was invited to be a guest artist of The Clay Studio, giving me an opportunity to explore clay once again. Since that time, I’ve been involved in the local and regional arts community including exhibitions of my work and organizing artistic programming and events through local universities and art collectives. I have been an associate artist of The Clay Studio since 2021.
