My ceramic works are sculptural, often with a connection to utility and the domestic realm, but not functional in a conventional sense.
I like to create metaphors and to tell stories with my sculptures; they often become like chapters in a story. The starting point for a piece is often an observation, obsession or admiration of something. I collect objects that for one reason or another appeal to me, and save them, visualizing how they can become part of the work, as inspiration or as mixed-media inclusion.
I work interchangeably with porcelain and stoneware clay mixed with paper fibers. Through coiling and pinching, I strive for a sensitive and "nervy" structure in the surface as well as in the shape.
Bio
Charlotta Klingström was born in 1971 and lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. She received an MFA in Ceramic Art in 2001 from HDK School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. She has exhibited frequently in Sweden as well as internationally. In addition to maintaining her own studio practice, she has recently returned to the HDK School of Design and Crafts as their part-time technician.
